This Copycat Chick-fil-A Sauce tastes just like the real thing and is ready in under 5 minutes with simple ingredients. It is sweet, smoky, creamy, and tangy all at once and is the perfect dipping sauce. Once you make it at home you will never need to hit the drive-through just for the sauce again!

I like to serve this creamy dipping sauce with Chick-fil-A copycat grilled nuggets and crispy oven baked french fries.

You can make at Healthy Copycat Chick-fil-A Sauce at home!

I love the challenge of making my takeout or fast food favorites in a healthier version at home. So a few weeks ago I asked my followers for a sauce recipe that they wanted me to remake at home and Chick-fil-A sauce was the top result. I created this healthy copycat Chick-fil-A sauce as a healthier alternative to the original.

You may be interested to hear how I went about creating this healthy copycat Chick-fil-A sauce. I started by reading the ingredient list on the original sauce and was less than impressed by that list of ingredients.

I knew that the sauce needed to be sweet and tangy like honey mustard, but creamy like mayonnaise. The other component of the traditional Chick-fil-A sauce is barbecue flavor and smoke. I used smoked paprika to get that smoke flavor naturally.

ingredients You’ll Need

Just grab a few simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand and get ready to mix this sauce together!

Ingredients for copycat chick-fil-a sauce with labels on each ingredient
  • Low fat plain Greek yogurt – This is what makes this sauce a healthier version of the original. Greek yogurt adds creaminess and a slight tang while keeping the sauce lighter than a full mayo base.
  • Yellow mustard – Mustard is one of the key flavors in Chick-fil-A sauce and gives it that classic tangy kick. Use regular yellow mustard here for the most authentic flavor.
  • Mayonnaise – A small amount of mayo adds richness and that classic creamy texture without making the sauce too heavy.
  • Honey – Honey adds the sweetness that balances out all the tangy ingredients. Use real honey for the best flavor.
  • Ketchup – Ketchup adds a subtle smoky tomato flavor that rounds out the sauce and gives it that signature Chick-fil-A color.
  • Apple cider vinegar – A splash of vinegar brightens up all the flavors and gives the sauce its signature tangy zip.
  • Onion powder – Adds a mild savory depth to the sauce that pulls all the flavors together.
  • Garlic powder – A little garlic powder adds just enough savory flavor without being overpowering.
  • Black pepper – Adds a gentle warmth and rounds out the overall flavor of the sauce.
  • Smoked paprika – This is what gives the sauce that smoky, slightly barbecue-like flavor that makes Chick-fil-A sauce so unique and addictive.

How to make Copycat Chick-fil-A Sauce

Greek yogurt, mayo, ketchup, mustard apple cider vinegar and seasonings in a mixing bowl

Step 1: Pour greek yogurt, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar honey and seasonings into a small mixing bowl.

Copycat chick-fil-a sauce mixed together in a cream colored mixing bowl with a whisk in the bowl

Step 2: Whisk all ingredients together until a smooth sauce remains. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week

Mad’s Expert Tips for the Best copycat Chick-fil-a Sauce

  • Chill before serving. The sauce tastes so much better after 30 minutes in the fridge. The flavors come together and you get that smooth, well-balanced Chick-fil-A flavor.
  • Taste and adjust before chilling. Give it a quick taste right after mixing. Add a little more honey if you want it sweeter, more mustard if you want more tang, or a dash more of smoked paprika if you want more smokiness.
  • Make a big batch. This sauce keeps in the fridge for up to one week and goes great on everything from chicken to fries to burgers. It is worth doubling the recipe.

If you want to use this sauce on some crispy chicken sandwiches, make a batch of crispy panko chicken cutlets.

Storage

Once prepared, store this sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. I like to store it in half-pint containers

I enjoy this better than the real thing. Just had the real stuff and realized it was too sweet. This sauce is perfect. Goes with everything. Make with her nuggets recipe, or even the air fried tofu. Even up in a sandwich. Yum.

Chick-fil-a sauce is 140 Cal per oz which is 2 tbsp. This recipe is 221 Cal per tbsp. So the homemade version is 3 times the calories comparing to original. Just something you want to be aware if you’re tracking your calories.

Needed some comfort food tonight so I made this along with chicken tenders and french fries. This sauce is AMAZING. It’s such a strange combo of ingredients, but everything comes together and it really does taste like the real thing. I used grape seed oil instead of olive and I think it worked well.

How did you figure out the nutrition facts? They seemed all wrong so I typed them into a nutrition fact calculator and for one serving of 2 tablespoons is 221 calories and 23.8 grams of fat…and that was using the lowest calorie and lowest fat items I could find… how does that work. Seems like a scam for all your viewers who are tracking.

Made this lastnight in my tiny blender (single smoothie ones) still did the trick! I was super impressed how thick and saucy it was, even with a different blender. And deff didn’t feel guilty eating it 😬

Can I use regular olive oil? I don’t have ‘light’ olive oil like the recipe calls for. Would vegetable oil work better?

Hi! Yes please use vegetable oil. It needs to be light tasting. EVOO makes the sauce bitter

Hi I just have a quick question in terms of healthier you just mean more wholesome ingredients instead of processed because with a 1 1/4 cup of olive oil can’t be many less calories than the original sauce?

    Reply
    1. Madeline
      February 21, 2020

This is the original ingredient list. Soybean oil, sugar, BBQ sauce (tomato paste, corn syrup, vinegar, natural hickory smoke flavor, caramel color, spices, garlic*, onion*, natural flavor, oleoresin paprika), water, mustard (distilled vinegar, water, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, paprika, spice, garlic*), distilled vinegar, egg yolk, salt, cider vinegar, lemon juice concentrate, mustard flour, natural flavor, xanthan gum, garlic*, calcium disodium EDTA added to protect flavor. *dehydrated.

In my opinion mine is healthier, but if you’re only concerned about calories then maybe a different option is for you. Also, that 1 1/4 cup of oil makes MANY servings.
