Christmas Crack Chex Mix for parties or as a gift!

This Christmas Chex mix recipe is super versatile! Make it when you’re in the mood for something festive and sweet. You could make it and portion it out into cute little holiday plastic baggies and give it as gifts.

I would also make this for a holiday party, either one I’m hosting or even bring it to a friend’s! The ingredients are easy to find and also easily replaceable.

Put a bowl of this simple Christmas chex mix out in a bowl for kids to keep them occupied while the parents chat. It is also a delicious holiday movie snack! Munch on handfuls of this Christmas crack while you watch The Grinch!

Making it christmas festive

This Christmas Chex Mix Recipe with M&Ms can really be made any time of the year, but using the red and green colored M&Ms and Christmas themed sprinkles really make it super festive.

I especially like adding the sprinkles when I’m making this as a gift or for a holiday party.

Serving Suggestions

This festive snack mix is the perfect thing to serve at a holiday party. Put out a bowl on your dessert buffet. I like to serve this with my chocolate thumbprint cookies and chocolate chess pie.

You can also pack it up in small bags or glass jars. Tie a Christmas ribbon around the top and bring to friends and family as a simple homemade gift. I like to make big batches at the start of December so I can share it with my neighbors.

Above view of ingredients for a christmas chex mix recipe

Christmas Crack Chex Mix Ingredients

  • Chex cereal (see note below on what type to use)
  • Mini pretzel twists
  • Peanuts
  • White chocolate chips
  • Coconut oil
  • Powdered sugar
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Christmas M&Ms
  • Optional: Christmas sprinkles

Ingredient Substitutions

The type of Chex cereal you use in this recipe is entirely up to you. I used rice Chex, but corn Chex or wheat Chex will also work. You could also use a mixture of different Chex types.

If you use either of these and gluten free pretzels, this recipe is gluten free. You can use either mini pretzel twists or pretzel rods, whichever you prefer.

If you are peanut free or just don’t like peanuts, you could either leave them out or replace with another nut like pecans or almonds. For a sweet and salty mix use nuts that were roasted with a little salt.

I like to use milk chocolate M&Ms for this recipe, but you can use any M&M variety that you like. It would be delicious with peanut butter M&Ms!

You could also use a different kind of candy in this snack mix. You could us mini rolos, mini peanut butter cups or even nonpareils.

How to make this Christmas Chex Mix Recipe

Step 1: prepare Ingredients

Pour the Chex, pretzels, and peanuts into a large mixing bowl (Image 1). Stir this cereal mixture to combine evenly.

Add the coconut oil into a bowl with the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl (Image 2). I Carefully melt them over a double boiler or at 50% powder in the microwave at 30 second increments, stirring between each interval.

Step 2: Mix the Ingredients

Pour the melted white chocolate over the Chex, pretzels, and peanut mixture (Image 3). Immediately mix together until the white chocolate is evenly coating each item.

Pour the powdered sugar into the bowl and toss again (Image 4). Add the marshmallows and M&Ms into the bowl and toss once more (Image 5).

Step 3: Cool and Serve

Spread the mixture out onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes (Image 6). Sprinkle the Christmas sprinkles on top of everything to make it even more festive.

Add it all to a large bowl if you’re serving it at a party, or portion out into individual holiday bags to give as a gift!

I wanted to make the Christmas Chex Mix and package it and give as gifts to our neighbors but it says to only store for 5 days? Seriously it is only good for 5 days?

Hi Patricia! It is best consumed within the first five days of making just due to freshness. You can still eat it after that but it is so addicting it may not even last that long! 🙂

yes! a little bit of avocado or any kind of vegetable oil (not olive oil) will work. its just to thin the white choclate and help it spread easier
