Ingredients You’ll Need

Here’s a quick look at the ingredients you need to make this greek turkey burger recipe. For a full list of ingredients and amounts please head to the full recipe.

the ingredients for greek turkey burgers in small bowls with labels on them
  • Ground turkey: I love making these burgers with lean ground turkey to keep them a bit healthier. You can also make them with another lean meat like lean ground beef or ground chicken.
  • Red onion: using red onion instead of yellow adds a little extra sharpness to the burgers that enhances the greek flavors.
  • Feta: adding feta in the burger creates a great texture while adding an amazing tangy flavor. It melts into the burger perfectly.
  • Bread crumbs: the bread crumbs help keep your burgers moist by retaining all of the juices.
  • Egg: to make sure your burgers stay together, add egg. It acts as a binder to keep the burgers from falling apart.
  • Oil: grease your pan or frill with a bit of olive oil or avocado oil so that the burgers do not stick, but they get a nice crisp on the outside.

Feel free to add some extra veggies to these flavorful turkey burgers by mixing things like chopped spinach or shredded zucchini in with the turkey meat mixture before cooking.

Add extra protein to the burgers by topping the cooked burgers with a homemade tzatziki made from greek yogurt, salt, cu

Mad’s Expert Tips for the Best Greek Turkey Burgers 🍔

  • Use feta in brine for the best flavor – you can use any feta you would like, but if you can find it in brine, it makes the flavors even better. Just be sure to drain the feta well so the burger mixture doesn’t get too wet.
  • Don’t over mix your burger mixture – to make sure the burgers stay tender, make sure you avoid over working the meat.
  • Wet or oil your hands before form the patties – make sure your hands are wet so that the burger mixture doesn’t stick to your hands while you form the patties.

Recipe FAQs

What greek seasonings should you use for these turkey burgers?

Red onion, feta, parsley, and oregano create the perfect greek flavor for your burgers. You can also top the burgers with tzatziki.

How long should you cook turkey burgers?

The timing will depend on your stovetop or grill, but typically it will take 7-9 minutes on each side. It’s most important to check that the internal temperature reaches 165F.

What are the biggest mistakes when cooking turkey burgers?

Over-mixing will make your meat tough, so try not to handle your burgers more than needed to form your patties. Additionally, while cooking the burgers, don’t press down on them. This releases all of that amazing juicy flavor.

Can you freeze turkey burgers?

Yes! You can freeze these greek turkey burgers and defrost later. The best way to do this would be to mix the ingredients together, form into patties and freeze prior to cooking the patties. Then, defrost and cook as needed.

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl and mix until thoroughly combined
  • Take the mixture and form six 5oz burger patties – it helps to wet your hands before forming the patties

I have not tested this recipe in an air fryer but it should work. Just make sure to flip them halfway and to check to make sure the internal temp is 165 degrees.

Another amazing recipe from Madeline! We did them on the stove in a cast iron skillet because it was pouring rain outside and they still turned out so delicious. Everything caramelized so beautifully (and tasty) and I can’t wait to have leftovers for lunch today!

These are DELICIOUS! The recipe makes a bunch, so I froze the extras and have been enjoying them once a week for a while now. Very good served over a greek inspired salad. Highly recommend this for an upgraded version of a burger.
