A simple salad with big flavor

What I like most about the wedge salad is how impressive it is while being so uncomplicated. It somehow strikes the perfect balance between simplicity and elegance.

It is a dish that only requires a few ingredients, but they come together perfectly, creating a dynamic flavor profile and a variety of textures. Crisp lettuce, creamy, rich dressing, and salty, savory bacon were just meant to go together.

It is no wonder that this dish is often served at steakhouses; it just tastes fancy. Whether you enjoy it as a starter or a side salad, it is sure to elevate your next dinner at home.

  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Homemade blue cheese dressing or storebought
  • Crumbled blue cheese
  • Chives

Another reason I like this wedge salad recipe so much? It can be customized to your liking.

Crisp and hearty ice berg lettuce is the perfect compliment to creamy blue cheese dressing, but I know that it is not always a favorite. If you

While I like making this wedge salad with cherry tomatoes, other types of tomatoes are fine, too. You could chop up beefsteak, roma, or heirloom tomatoes for this wedge salad.

You can even add extra veggies like pickled or fresh sliced red onion, avocado, and cucumber to make it a heartier salad. Add more protein by tossing some cubed grilled chicken on the plate with the other toppings.

Instead of regular bacon, you can also try thick cut bacon, pancetta, or turkey bacon. If you are not a fan of bacon, feel free to omit altogether.

You can also enjoy wedge salads with other flavors. It would be equally delicious with a buttermilk ranch dressing and cheddar cheese.

For a more mild taste, substitute the blue cheese crumbles for crumbled feta or crumbled goat cheese.

Step by step assembly of a wedge salad recipe

How to make a Wedge Salad

Step 1: Cook the bacon

To start preparing this salad, you will want to cook the bacon until crispy.

You can cook it on the stove top or in the oven. Chop into crumble and set aside.

Step 2: Cut the lettuce and Chop the tomatoes

Next, peel any bad looking outer leaves off the lettuce. Then, cut the head of iceberg into quarters and cut the core off the bottom of each piece. Place each quarter on an individual salad plate or one large serving plate.

Next it is time to chop the cherry tomatoes. Cut into quarters.

Step 3: Add dressing and arrange toppings

Then, drizzle about 2 tbsp of blue cheese dressing over each quarter of iceberg lettuce. Arrange crumbled bacon, crumbled blue cheese, tomatoes and chives on top of the lettuce – its okay if some falls to the side of the lettuce!

Top with a little fresh cracked black pepper and salt. Serve with extra dressing on the side. Enjoy!

Make ahead tips and storage

This salad is best enjoyed as soon as it is made to ensure that the bacon remains crispy. If you make it ahead of time, do not pour the dressing on until you are ready to eat.

Although I find that this salad tastes best when enjoyed within 24 hours of cooking, you can save the leftovers. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

  • 6 strips bacon
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce
