These are super flavorful chicken tenders made with a simple marinade

This honey mustard chicken marinade is about to change your life. Make super flavorful honey mustard chicken by marinating the chicken for just a few hours in this simple marinade.

Just combine some oil, honey, mustard and spices in a small bowl. Then, mix it up and toss the chicken tenders in the marinade. Place the bowl in the fridge to marinate for at least 2 hours.

Once marinated, this honey mustard chicken will be ready in less than 15 minutes. Cook the chicken tenders in a skillet until golden brown. Then, serve on a salad, sandwich or warp.

Kitchen tools

  • Measuring spoons
  • Liquid measuring cup
  • Mixing bowls
  • Large heavy bottom pan – a cast iron skillet works best

I like to use a 10 inch cast iron skillet for this honey mustard chicken recipe. That way there is space for the outside of the chicken tenders to caramelize. If you only have a smaller skillet you can cook your chicken tenders in batches. Leave space between each tender as they cook.

How to serve

Once these honey mustard chicken tenders are prepared, there are so many ways to serve them! Make a delicious chicken dinner by serving them alongside roasted potatoes and green beans. They are also amazing with this roasted veggie couscous salad.

Make a healthy honey mustard chicken salad by first cubing the chicken. Then, serve it over chopped romaine with cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese and crispy sourdough croutons. I like to drizzle some of this homemade creamy honey mustard sauce on top for extra flavor.

For a comforting meal, make a honey mustard chicken panini. Slice the honey mustard chicken thinly. Then, make a panini with the chicken, bacon and cheese on slices of whole wheat bread.

I also like to make a simple honey mustard chicken wrap with bacon, tomatoes, spinach and more honey mustard sauce.

Above view of ingredients for honey mustard chicken

Ingredients

  • Boneless skinless chicken tenders
  • Oil – I like to use avocado oil or olive oil
  • Honey
  • Yellow mustard
  • Coconut aminos or soy sauce
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder

Ingredient substitutions

You can use this mustard chicken marinade with basically any cut of chicken. Instead of chicken breast tenderloins you can use boneless skinless chicken breasts and cut them into tenders or filets.

You can also make honey mustard chicken thighs using this simple recipe. The chicken thighs will take slightly longer to cook so be sure to check for an internal temperature of 165F.

You could even use this honey mustard chicken marinade for wings! Instead of marinating the chicken wings, bake the wings in the oven to crisp them. Then, use the marinade as a sauce for basting.

I recommend yellow mustard for this mustard chicken recipe, but you can use dijon mustard or whole grain mustard. You can also use a blend of mustards to make this honey mustard chicken recipe.

This simple marinade is sweetened with honey. If you do not have any honey, sweeten the marinde with maple syrup, agave nectar, brown rice syrup or brown sugar.

How to make Honey Mustard Chicken Tenders

Step 1: Marinate chicken in mustard chicken marinade

To begin, prepare a honey mustard chicken marinade. Combine 1/4 cup avocado oil, honey, yellow mustard, coconut aminos, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a mixing bowl.

Then, add chicken tenders to the bowl and toss to coat them. Next, cover the bowl and marinate in the fridge for at least two hours.

Step 2: Sear in a pan

Then, heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tbsp of oil to the pan. When the oil is warm, add the marinated tenders to the pan.

Next, cook the chicken tenders over medium for 8 minutes flipping every 2 minutes. Once the tenders are golden brown, check to make sure they are fully cooked.

The honey mustard chicken will be fully cooked once the internal temperature reaches 165F. Allow them to cool slightly then enjoy!

Can I make bake these?

Yes! Make baked honey mustard chicken in the oven. Just bake these chicken tenders on a sheet pan in a preheated oven at 350F for 25 – 30 minutes.

Can i grill them?

Yes! I love to make grilled honey mustard chicken using this recipe. Just heat a grill or grill pan over medium high heat. Rotate the chicken tenders every 2 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165F. This should take 6-8 minutes depending on the heat of the grill.

Storage and Reheating

Once prepared, allow the tenders to cool completely. Then, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

You can reheat these on the stovetop, but if I have leftovers I prefer to eat them cold.

I used grape seed oil and soy sauce because that is what I had, and they still turned out amazing. My husband and 15 month old also loved them!

My boyfriend LOVES honey mustard so we gave this a try. I made these to have for lunches throughout the week and they were gone in a day (hours really)! We used brown spicy mustard and they still were great! Definitely will be a lunch staple for us.

I did not read ahead and did not marinade them but they were still super delicious and so quick and easy! I’ll definitely make again and marinade them. I’m sure they will be even better which is hard to imagine! We cut them up and made salads with them. So so good!!! I usually snap a photo and tag on insta but we devoured them so quickly I didn’t even get a photo!

Who doesn’t love chicken tenders and honey mustard?! These were delicious, served with the one pot Mac and cheese! May attempt to coat with panko after marinating and cooking in the air fryer for a little crisp. We will definitely be adding these to our rotation of meals

I’m not really a honey mustard girl (pass me the ranch please), but DANG these are so so so good. Melt in your mouth delicious! Next time I’m going to make some extra sauce to dip my chicken (and probably my veggie side) in. Go make them now!

Just made these using thighs (what I had at home) and I can’t believe the flavor! So easy and so delicious. Left it overnight to marinate. Cooked slightly longer bc of using thighs. Will def be making this again- probably weekly!

I hate having to think ahead for dinner but this chicken is WORTH IT. As long as you take the five minutes to put the chicken in the marinade ahead of time, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most delicious chicken you’ve ever had!

YES! I agree taking the time to marinate chicken always feels annoying at the time but SO worth it for this one especially. Thank you for sharing!
