Why You’ll Love this Recipe

  • Great to make with kids – these are the perfect Christmas treat to make with little kids because they can help with the simple, repetitive tasks like unwrapping the chocolate candies.
  • Prepare in less than 20 minutes – when you are short on time, but still want to make a festive treat, try these rolo pretzel bites. They come together in less than 20 minutes!
  • Great for a gift or cookie tray – place a few bites in a festive bag or glass container, add a ribbon on top and gift as a small gift during the holidays or add as a candy element to Christmas cookie trays.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Here’s a quick look at the ingredients you need to make these easy rolo pretzel bites. For a full list of ingredients and amounts please head to the full recipe.

Ingredients for rolo pretzel bites: waffle shaped pretzels, rolo candies in their wrappers, and red and green christmas sprinkles
  • Sprinkles: I used a Christmas sprinkle blend for this recipe, but I have also tested it with Christmas nonpareils and it looks great both ways! You can truly use any kind of sprinkles you like.
  • Rolos: the caramel chocolate combination makes a Rolo the perfect candy for this treat. If you don’t want to use Rolos you can use another chocolate candy like Hershey kisses, Hershey hugs or Dove chocolate promises.
  • Pretzels: salted pretzels add the perfect crunch and salty element to this simple dessert. I like to use waffle shaped pretzels, but you can use any small pretzel twist.

If you want to make another sweet and salty treat, try these kitchen sink cookies or brown butter rice krispie treats.

How to make Rolo Pretzel bites

A baking pan filled with a layer of christmas sprinkles

Step 1: Preheat oven to 300F and pour sprinkles onto a parchment lined baking pan.

A baking pan filled with a layer of sprinkles, then a layer of rolos with the wrapper off

Step 2: Unwrap the rolos and arrange on top of the sprinkles with a little space between each rolo.

A baking pan filled with a layer of sprinkles, then a layer of rolos, then a few pretzels on some of the rolos. The rolos look warm and melted from the oven

Step 3: Bake rolos at 300F for just 3 minutes. While the candy is warm, gently press one pretzel on each rolo.

A baking pan filled with a layer of sprinkles, then a layer of rolos, then pretzels on top.

Step 4: Allow the candy to cool completely before gently picking it up out of the pan. Save any leftover sprinkles for another treat!

Mad’s Expert Tips for the Best Rolo Pretzel bites 🍫

  • Use a 9×13 pan to contain the sprinkles – it takes a little more effort to prepare the fresh ingredients, but the flavor is so much more vibrant and balanced. A full sheet pan is too large for 1 cup of sprinkles.
  • Create a 1/4″ thick layer of sprinkles – this ensures that there are enough sprinkles to coat the bottom of the melted rolos once the pretzel is pressed into them.
  • Do not press down too hard on the pretzels – slowly and gently press the pretzel onto the melted rolo so that the melted chocolate gets pressed into the sprinkles, but not so smooshed that the sprinkles get pushed out of the way.
  • Allow the pretzel bites to cool completely before picking up – if you pick them up before the chocolate is fully set, the chocolate may drip and the sprinkles will fall off.

If you’re looking for more sweet and salty holiday baking recipes, try these pistachio stuffed chocolate chip cookies or flourless peanut butter brownies.

Recipe FAQs

Can you freeze these rolo pretzel bites?

Yes! Allow the bites to cool completely and then transfer to a freezer safe airtight container. Keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Allow to that at room temperature before enjoying.

How long will the pretzels stay crispy when made ahead?

You can make these rolo pretzel bites up to 5 days in advance, store in an airtight container at room temperature and the pretzel will still be crispy.

What can I use instead of rolos for these pretzel bites?

If you don’t like rolos, you can use hershey kisses or milk chocolate dove promises. Cook for the same amount of time as the rolos.

Servings: 7 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sprinkles
  • 35 rolos unwrapped
  • 35 pretzels I like the waffle shape for this
Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

  • Line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 300F
  • Pour the sprinkles into the pan and spread into an even layer – you don’t want to be able to see any parchment paper
  • Arrange the rolos on top in even rows with space between each one
  • Place the pan in the preheated oven to bake for just 3 minutes. Have the pretzels ready to go while they bake.
  • While the rolos are warm from the oven, carefully and gently press a pretzel onto each rolo
  • Allow to cool completely before remove the bites from the pan. Collect leftover sprinkles to reuse!

Recipe Notes

  • Make sure the layer of sprinkles is thick enough that when you press down on the rolo the entire surface gets covered. I check for about 1/4″ layer of sprinkles
  • Press down on the pretzels very gently so the rolo gets pressed into the sprinkles but not too smooshed down.
  • Allow the chocolate too cool completely before removing bites from the pan. If you pick them up too quickly the melted chocolate will drip and the sprinkles will fall off.

I love using the circle shaped pretzels for this. They always have them at Aldi around the holidays.
