Ingredients You’ll need

- Unsalted butter – one stick of creamy unsalted butter is key for a soft and flavorful cookie.
- Granulated sugar and light brown sugar – I use primarily granulated white sugar with just a bit of brown sugar to give these cookies the perfect sweetness. I like that brown sugar adds depth of flavor and a bit of moisture to the batter.
- Large egg – one large egg helps the batter stick together and gives the cookies a bit of lift.
- All purpose flour – plain all purpose flour is ideal for this cookie recipe. To make this recipe gluten free, just use a 1:1 gluten free flour blend and be sure to use either a gluten free certified cornstarch or arrowroot starch.
- Cornstarch – adding corn starch to cookie dough can actually make it softer and keep the cooked cookies softer for longer.
- Salt – enhance the favor of this dough with just a bit of kosher salt.
- Baking soda – just a bit of baking soda gives these cookies the perfect amount of lift and spread!
- M&Ms – I usually use just plain milk chocolate M&Ms for this recipe, but any type will work! You can try dark chocolate, peanut butter or even mini M&Ms for a fun twist on the classic recipe.
