This Salted Caramel Apple Granola recipe takes the packs all of the flavor of a caramel apple into salty, sweet granola clutsters. Use maple syrup and ghee to make a stick, sweet salted caramel and bake with rolled oats to make a delicious gluten-free granola.

Enjoy fall flavors with these caramel apple granola clusters

I love all of the flavors of fall, but there is something about a caramel apple that really brings me back to childhood. This salty-sweet granola reminds me of a caramel apple.

This gluten free granola bakes in a large sheet so you can crumble it into large granola clusters. I like to have these clusters on yogurt, smoothies, ice cream or even on their own as a quick snack.

What kitchen tools will I need to make this salty sweet granola?

  • Sauce pan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Liquid measuring cup
  • Mixing bowls
  • Sheet pan
  • Parchment paper

What ingredients will I need to make this caramel apple granola?

You will be amazed at how easy it is to make these salt sweet granola clusters. First just make a salted caramel sauce with the maple syrup and ghee and then pour it over some rolled oats and bake!

  • Maple syrup
  • Ghee
  • Salt
  • Rolled oats
  • Apple
  • Cinnamon

Let’s make some Salted Caramel Apple Granola!

Step 1: Prepare the salted caramel

To begin, add maple syrup and ghee to a sauce pan over medium heat. Then, whisk the ghee into the maple syrup as it melts.

Once the ghee is fully melted increase the heat to medium-high. Next, allow the mixture to come to a rolling boil. Watch the mixture closely so that it does not boil over.

Then, whisk and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer on medium-low whisking frequently for 20 minutes – the mixture should reduce to a thicker syrup.

Step 2: Prep the oats

While the caramel sauce reduces, peel the apple and slice into small pieces. Then, preheat the oven to 325F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Next, combine rolled oats, cinnamon, and apple pieces in a large mixing bowl. Once the caramel syrup has simmered for 20 minutes remove from the heat and immediately whisk in the salt.

Step 3: Combine the caramel and oats

Then, allow that mixture to cool slightly and then pour over the oats and apple. Mix thoroughly with a flat spatula so all oats and apple pieces are evenly coated in the salted caramel mixture.

Next, spread the mixture onto the baking sheet in an even layer. You want all of the oats to be touching each other as they cook so that you can break into crumbles after.

Step 3: Bake your granola!

Then, bake at 325F for 30 minutes. Finally, allow the granola to cool completely before crumbling.

Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 5 days or longer in the refrigerator.

Step 4: Enjoy!

How should I store this salty-sweet granola?

Store this granola in an airtight container on the counter for up to 5 days. If you want to keep this granola longer you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

How should I eat this Salted Caramel Apple Granola?

This delicious gluten free fall granola recipe is almost like a salty sweet dessert. It is delicious with yogurt, on a smoothie or even on top of vanilla bean ice cream.

Most of the time I just pop handfuls of the salted caramel granola clusters into my mouth as I walk by the bag on the counter. I cannot get enough!!

Hey Madeline- my granola came out and even after hours of cooling was pretty soft. Do you think I should bake it longer? Thanks !

Can I use 1/2 cup maple syrup and 1/2 cup honey or would that make it taste different/weird?

the first time i made this, the granola never crisped up, followed the recipe to a T and everything so i was a bit bummed. but it still tasted SO good.

i just made it again this morning, leaving it in the oven for a little over 10 minutes more than the time on the recipe, and it crisped up very nicely! super crunchy which is exactly what i wanted. this is hands down the best and tastiest granola i’ve ever made, it’s super simple too which i appreciate. will definitely be making this again and again!!! <3 (:
