These Cookies N Cream Overnight Oats taste like dessert for breakfast and are secretly one of the most nutritious things you can start your day with. Rolled oats and chia seeds are blended with cottage cheese, milk, and cocoa powder for a rich, creamy, chocolate base that is high in protein and fiber. Top it all off with crumbled Oreo thins for that classic cookies and cream crunch in every bite.

Make three jars on Sunday and have a ready-to-grab breakfast for the whole week! Looking for another overnight oats recipe? Try these Peanut Butter Overnight Oats.

Why Youโ€™ll Love This Recipe

  • High Protein Breakfast โ€“ This recipe may be the tastiest way to get 18g of protein for breakfast!
  • Great make-ahead breakfastโ€“ These overnight oats jars come together in under 20 minutes and require no baking or cooking. It is perfect for a quick Sunday meal prep!
  • Customizableโ€“ Use a different sweetener if you want, eat the oats warm, or add different toppings. Overnight oats are a pretty customizable recipe!

Ingredients Youโ€™ll Need

Hereโ€™s a quick look at the ingredients you need to make these cookies n cream overnight oats.

ingredients for cookies n cream overnight oats in bowls
  • 2% milk โ€“ part of the base of these overnight oats
  • Low fat cottage cheese โ€“ must be blended before mixing with the oats. Blending the cottage cheese with the milk, cocoa powder, and sweetener creates a completely smooth and creamy liquid base with no lumpy cottage cheese texture.
  • Sugar โ€“ I used Truvia; adjust the sweetness to your taste
  • Cocoa powder โ€“ adds the chocolatey taste to these cookies n cream overnight oats
  • Rolled oats โ€“ make sure to use rolled oats not quick oats because they hold their texture better
  • Chia seeds โ€“  I love adding chia seeds to overnight oats. They are a great boost in fiber and protein!
  • Oreo thins โ€“ Oreo Thins are thinner and crispier than regular Oreos and hold up a little better as a topping without getting as soggy overnight. Regular Oreos work too but will soften more by morning. Either way, crumbling them on top right before eating rather than the night before keeps them the crunchiest.

How to make These Cookies n cream overnight oats

cookies n cream overnight oat base in a mixing bowl

Step 1: Blend milk, cottage cheese, sugar and cocoa powder together with an immersion blender or standard blender and pour into a bowl.

Step 2: Add rolled oats, chia seeds and crumbled oreo thins to the bowl and mix to combine thoroughly.

Step 3: I like to let this sit on the counter for 10-15 minutes after mixing and then mix again before placing in the fridge

Step 4: Cover the bowl or transfer to an airtight container and place in the fridge overnight*.

Separate into 3 servings and serve with more crumbled oreos on top or with fresh fruit.

*The oats need to soak for at least 4 hours but overnight is best. The rolled oats absorb the liquid as they soak and become thick, creamy, and ready to eat cold straight from the jar. If the oats are too thick in the morning add a splash of milk and stir before eating.

Madโ€™s Expert Tips for the Best Cookies n cream overnight oats ๐Ÿช

  • Blend the cottage cheese smooth. This is the key to a creamy base with no lumps. Blend the cottage cheese with the milk, cocoa powder, and sugar before adding the oats and chia seeds.
  • Add the Oreos right before eating. Crumbling the Oreos on top the night before makes them soggy by morning. Keep them separate and add them right before eating for the best crunch.
  • Use rolled oats, not quick oats. Rolled oats hold their texture much better overnight and give you a chewier, more satisfying consistency. Quick oats will turn too soft and mushy.
  • Adjust the sweetness to taste. The recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of sugar. If you want it less sweet, start with 1 tablespoon and taste before adding more. Truvia or any other sweetener works as a direct swap.

Recipe FAQs

Can I taste the cottage cheese in these overnight oats?

No! When you blend the cottage cheese smooth with the other ingredients it completely disappears into the creamy chocolate base. It just adds protein and creaminess without any cottage cheese flavor or texture.

How long do these overnight oats last in the fridge?

Store in sealed jars in the fridge for up to 4 days. They are perfect for making a batch at the start of the week for a ready-to-go breakfast every morning.

Can I eat overnight oats warm?

Yes! If you prefer warm oats, microwave the jar for 60-90 seconds and stir before adding the Oreo topping. The oats will be just as creamy warm as they are cold.

Can I use a different sweetener instead of sugar?

Yes! Any granulated sweetener works in this recipe. Truvia, monk fruit sweetener, or coconut sugar all work great as a one to one substitute.

Storage and freezing

Store in sealed jars or containers in the fridge for up to 4 days. I like to top with fresh oreos just before serving.
